Lubricant viscosity, oil viscosity index and pour point are important when lubricating oils are used at low temperatures. According to the lubrication theory, proper oil film is the basis for establishing sufficient oil film thickness.

 

Oxidative stability

It is also very important that the lubricating oil has good oxidation stability and/or thermal stability when used continuously or intermittently for a long time, or when the lubricating oil is easily oxidized and deteriorated when used under high temperature or other conditions.

 

Rust resistance

There is steam or moisture at the work site. For example, in petrochemical, steel, paper and other industries, the machine will be easily affected by moisture and rust. At this time, lubricating oil with good rust resistance is required.

 

Anti-foaming

Sliding bearings are often lubricated by circulating oil or splash lubrication. When the lubricating oil is stirred or circulated in the oil circuit system, some foam will naturally form due to mechanical movement. However, if there is too much foam, it can cause insufficient oil supply to the bearing and cause oil to escape from the oil tank.

 

Oil-water separation (anti-emulsification)

If a large amount of water enters the lubricating oil, it is important that the lubricating oil resists emulsification and can easily separate the water.

 

Extreme pressure

In some cases of heavy load and low speed, it is difficult to maintain a sufficient thickness of the oil film and ensure that the lubricating oil is in a liquid state only by the viscosity. This makes the bearing very easy to sinter. At this time, it is necessary to add oil additives to maintain oil supply and improve extreme pressure.
